<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video server and seamless playback method therefor, capable of seamlessly switching playback from a first program material compressed and coded by a single GOP to a second program material compressed and coded by a long GOP. <P>SOLUTION: The video server includes a storage section, an output processing section and a demodulation processing section. The storage section stores first video data of a single GOP and second video data of a long GOP. The output processing section reads the first video data and the second video data for each preset quantity from the storage section, and outputs first block data formed by organizing the first video data and second block data formed from a part of the second video data for each frame corresponding to preset quantity.
