A reactant (r1) is provided to a sample solution. The sample solution is supplied to an ultraviolet reactor, and then to a spectrometer, and nitrate is detected. The ultraviolet reactor is DONOX reactor. Instead of ultraviolet light, wet oxidation or electrochemical oxidation is carried out. Thus, the continuous or batchwise quantitative analysis of nitrogen-containing compound is carried out.
