A discharge lamp assembly for use with three-phase supply comprises an internally reflecting shade 1, a socket 2 having three lamp holders arranged so that the lamps 6 are spaced at 120 degrees on a circle concentric with the socket, the distance from the centre axis of one lamp to a point on the shade nearest the adjacent lamp being at least twice that between the same point on the shade and the nearest surface to the shade of the adjacent lamp, the shade being shaped so that the reflected rays combine with the direct rays, and a dome 3 over the shade in which is mounted an assembly of choke coils 4, one connected to each lampholder. The arrangement is stated to avoid the stroboscopic effect exhibited by discharge lamps on three-phase supply. |
