<p>A planar anode 200 for use in a wet electrolytic capacitor comprising; an anode body comprised of an anodically oxidised pellet formed from a compressed and sintered powder; and an anode leadwire 220, which is embedded within the anode body and has a first portion 221 that extends in a longitudinal direction therefrom, a second portion 222 of the lead wire is embedded within the pellet and is orientated at an angle of about 40º to 120º to that of the first portion 221; wherein the planar anode 200 has a thickness of 5 millimetres or less and has a ratio of length to thickness of about 5 to 50. Also disclosed is a method of making the above anode 200. Further disclosed is a wet electrolytic capacitor comprising the above anode 200; a metal cathode coated with an electrochemically active material; and an electrolyte material. The present invention reduces the tendency of the leadwire to pull out of the anode due to stresses encountered during manufacturing (e.g., sintering) and/or use of the capacitor.</p> |
