PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to easily switch a twist state and a splay state in a memory mode of a liquid crystal cell in a BCSN(Bistable Chiral Splay Nematic) mode, thereby maintaining features of a memory in a twist state. CONSTITUTION: A first insulating substrate faces a second insulating substrate. A liquid crystal layer(3) is inserted between the first insulating substrate and the second insulating substrate. The liquid crystal layer comprises a plurality of liquid crystal molecules(31) and a polymer network. The state of the liquid crystal molecules is switched between a twist state and a splay state. The polymer network is arranged around the liquid crystal molecules. |
