ELECTROFUSION CHAMBER

An apparatus is provided for producing cell electrofusion (20) wherein the cells to be fused are directed to and retained on one side of a substrate (34) and between the electrodes (30, 32). Thus, a significant portion of the cells are in close cell-to-cell contact so that dielectrophoresis is not needed before electrofusion. In a preferred embodiment, the substrate is porous (34) and the cells are held onto the porous substrate by means of a vacuum (38).
