The device (7) has a crane pillar and a crane jib mounted on the pillar with a crane trolley movable in the longitudinal direction of the jib by a drive with running rollers that roll on jib rails, a height adjustable load chain and a drive gear wheel engaged with a toothed rod. The load chain is positioned on a leading end of the crane trolley at a distance from the longitudinal direction of the crane pillar whilst the drive gear wheel is arranged at a rear end closer to the crane pillar.
