PURPOSE: An automated teller machine is provided to reduce installation costs for a safe as well as increase space utilization. CONSTITUTION: A medium input and output unit draws in or draws out a medium. A detection unit(20) senses the state of the medium to be drawn in or out. A medium storage(40) stores the medium drawn in or the media drawn out through the medium input and output unit. A collection storage(60) stores a defective medium determined from the detection unit or the medium which is not transferred to a client. A safe receives accepts one or more medium storages and collection storages.
