Connecting element (10), preferably a wire or a strip conductor for electrically connecting two circuit- and/or machine components comprises an electric conductor (12), which is electrically insulated by a lacquer coating (14). The lacquer coating comprises of at least one optically detectable component (18). An independent claim is also included for insulating the connecting element, comprising (a) removing the lacquer coating in a predetermined partial section (16) of the connecting element, (b) measuring emission and/or absorption of the predetermined section in a spectral range, where the lacquer coating exhibits different spectrum from a metallic conductor; (c) checking whether the measured emission and/or absorption of the lacquer coating corresponds to free electrical conductor; and (d) repeating the process of removing the lacquer coating if the step (c) is not fulfilled.
