<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve performance of a solar battery by changing a band gap of a single crystal semiconductor without increasing defects. <P>SOLUTION: By taking a sunlight spectrum into account, 1.4 eV is appropriate as a band gap of a solar battery material. The band gap of silicon, a single crystal being easy to obtain at a low cost, is not efficient because of the value of 1.12 eV at a room temperature. It is difficult to obtain a single crystal by such a method as mixing with other element to change the band gap. Meanwhile, the band gap of polycrystal or amorphous can be controlled but defects increase. Hence, by bonding a single crystal to a substrate such as metal, and then deforming and processing it, a lattice constant is changed to control the dimension of the band gap, as a single crystal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
