<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short-arc type discharge lamp having a cathode and an anode arranged as opposing each other in an arc tube, which has a structure of electrodes that prevents blackening of a lamp due to evaporation of an electrode material, with the center of the tip of the anode not projecting beyond a surrounding circular portion, in particular, during full/standby lighting in which normal lighting at a rated electric power and standby lighting at a low electric power are repeated. <P>SOLUTION: An insertion body is inserted in an opening at the center of the tip of an anode. A groove or a recess is formed on at least either one of the inner surface of the opening or the outer surface of the insertion body.
