This switching apparatus is provided with, on the inside of a tank enclosing an insulating gas, a stationary contact and a movable contact separable from the stationary contact so as to move back and forth in relation to this stationary contact. The switching apparatus is also provided with an arc extinguishing member provided with through-holes on an enclosing part formed such that the enclosing part will be in sliding contact with the outer peripheral surface of the movable contact part way through the range of motion from the closed state to the open state and enclose the arc space in a sealed state. The through-holes connect the arc space with the outside of the arc space. |
