<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a sidewall or a base tread, which is excellent in flex crack growth resistance, durability, crack generation resistance, rolling resistance characteristics and ozone resistance even when the rubber composition uses a plasticizer derived from a non-petroleum resource, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the composition. <P>SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a sidewall or a base tread includes a rubber component including at least two kinds of diene-based rubber and a glycerol fatty acid triester derived from a non-petroleum resource. The rubber component includes at least one kind of diene-based rubber selected from the group comprising natural rubber, epoxidized natural rubber and butadiene rubber.
