摘要 <p>The present invention is addressed at improving response speed at a low cost in a liquid crystal display device, with a normally black mode, that performs a monochrome gradation display. A pixel of a liquid crystal panel is composed of three sub-pixels (Pa,Pb,Pc), and gradation transformation properties are set as follows when transforming the gradation of the pixel to the gradation of the three sub-pixels. When the gradation of the pixel can be represented by the sub-pixel (Pa) alone, the gradations of the sub-pixels (Pb,Pc) are set to minimum gradation, and the gradation of the sub-pixel (Pa) is set. When the gradation of the pixel can be represented by the sub-pixels (Pa,Pb), the gradation of the sub-pixel (Pa) is set to maximum gradation, the gradation of the sub-pixel (Pc) is set to minimum gradation, and the gradation of the sub-pixel (Pb) is set such that the ratio of transmissivity of the sub-pixel (Pb) to the transmissivity of the pixel is less than the limiting value. When the gradation of the sub-pixel (Pb) cannot be set so as to satisfy the conditions relating to transmissivity, the gradation of the sub-pixel (Pc) is set to minimum gradation, and the gradations of the sub-pixels (Pa,Pb) are set so as to be no less than the gradation of the pixel.</p>
