摘要 An optical instrument for reading in a lying position enables a reader to read in a lying and relaxed position. The optical instrument for reading in a lying position uses the reflection of the text (t) by two mirrors (ep and ec) to create a raised image of the text being read, thus making it unnecessary to lift and hold the text physically. The reader remains lying down on his side, and looks at the bottom mirror (ec), which is normally concave, and is placed in front of the reader's face. The text lies on the bed (c), between the reader's face and the edge of the bed, facing upwards, where it can be handled or annotated by the reader. Besides the mirror (ec), the optical instrument for reading in a lying position holds a flat top mirror (ep) above the bed and the text, with a suitable angle of inclination facing the mirror (ec). The virtual image of the text produced by the top mirror (ep) is captured by the bottom mirror (ec), which produces a second virtual image of the text in a raised position facing the reader's face. Since the bottom mirror (ec) is a concave mirror, the optical instrument for reading in a lying position gives the impression that the text is near, at the normal reading distance, facilitating visual accommodation because the second virtual image is magnified and located a few metres away from the reader, although this is not perceptible to the reader. Lighting means (g) with a lamp that projects light onto the text (t) can be conveniently attached to the arm (8) to which the first mirror (ep) is secured, in order to improve reading conditions.
