A display state desired by an individual observer cannot be achieved without burdening the observer with a switching operation to produce an image that satisfies the demands of the observer in the case that a 3D image is viewed by a plurality of such observers. The stereoscopic image display device is provided with an observer detector for identifying observers, and a database of observers and stereoscopic vision glasses that stores and manages individual data for each observer and each pair of stereoscopic vision glasses. The stereoscopic vision glasses used by each of the observers are automatically instructed to produce the display state desired by the observer.
