The present invention relates to a method for measuring a delay of a packet in an Ethernet switching device and an Ethernet switching device. An interface between an MAC layer chip and a PHY layer chip in an Ethernet switching device in an actual working state is used to test a delay time of a packet, and as the delay of the packet in the PHY layer chip is constant, the time at which the packet enters and exits the Ethernet switching device can be accurately measured, thereby improving the accuracy of delay detection. Moreover, compared with measurement that is usually performed by using a measurement instrument in a test environment, the extra consumption of ports of the Ethernet switching device is avoided, and the accuracy of delay detection is improved as the measurement is performed in the Ethernet switching device. Moreover, the packet for measuring the delay can be flexibly configured when the Ethernet switching device normally runs.
