<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material showing optical activity, obtained by using as a raw material, a compound which is a solution, does not exhibit optical activity and has an amide bond, and to provide a method for producing the material. <P>SOLUTION: The solution contains a compound having an amide bond, does not show optical activity in a static state and shows optical activity by being rotated. A gel contains a compound which is a solution, does not show optical activity in a static state, shows optical activity by being rotated, and has an amide bond.
