PURPOSE: A mobile terminal and a controlling method thereof are provided to control a mobile terminal by motion of a user and to control a reproducing state of multimedia content. CONSTITUTION: A sensing unit(140) senses the motion of an external object. A controlling unit(180) recognizes a motion pattern of the external object. The controlling unit controls a reproduction state of multimedia content according to the motion pattern. The sensing unit includes a motion sensor. The motion sensor senses a specific path of the mobile terminal.
