<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing optically-active menthol, which is composed of a few steps that are all catalytic reaction steps, therefore producing little environment-polluting waste, and can achieve a reduction in the manufacturing cost. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing optically-active menthol includes steps of: (A-1) subjecting at least one of geranial and neral to asymmetric hydrogenation to obtain optically active citronellal; (B-1) subjecting the optically active citronellal to ring-closing reaction with an acid catalyst to obtain optically active isopulegol; and (C-1) hydrogenating the optically active isopulegol to obtain optically active menthol. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
