895,837. Turbines. BROWN INDUSTRIES Ltd., DAVID. Dec. 29, 1960 [Dec. 31, 1959], No. 44349/59. Class 110 (3). In a radial flow turbine the rotor shaft 12 is supported, in or near a plane perpendicular to its axis containing the rotor 13, by bearing means 11 and, in a plane spaced axially from the rotor 13, by the centralizing action exerted on one member 15 of a gear arrangement by three or more pinions 17. The member 15 may be formed on or carried by the rotor shaft 12 and three pinions 17 are mounted in a planet carrier 16 engaging an annulus 19. A gland 20 seals off the gear arrangement and secures the bearing 11 in the casing. The bearing 11 may be of ball, roller or plain type and may be augmented by a separate thrust bearing.
