The nosing 1 comprises a tread 6 fixed to a base 4 by a projection and a corresponding recess on either the base or the tread. The projection and recess have co-operating formations that lock the tread to the base. The tread may extend into the riser portion 5 of the base and the co-operating formations may comprise second projections and recesses. A first fixing may be disposed at or adjacent to one end of the tread element, whilst a second fixing may be found at the other. A third fixing may be spaced from the first and second fixings. The co-operating formation may comprise a continuous annular rib and corresponding groove, or the projection may be barbed. The projections may be flexible and comprise a plurality of secondary projections and recesses. The tread element may comprise an insert that engages a channel formed in the base. |
