<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane for a solid polymer fuel cell capable of generating power at high energy efficiency with high power generating performance irrespective of dew points of supplied gas, and capable of generating stable power over a long period of time. <P>SOLUTION: An electrolyte membrane comprises a cation exchange membrane made of a polymer compound having a sulfonic acid group, contains at least one type selected from a group comprising cerium and manganese ions by 0.3 mole percentage or higher of -SO<SB>3</SB><SP>-</SP>group in the cation exchange membrane and a slightly soluble cerium compound, and is used as the electrolyte membrane for solid polymer fuel cells. In the cation exchange membrane, the slightly soluble cerium compound is preferably contained by 0.3-30% of the total mass of the cation exchange membrane, and perfluorocarbon polymer having a sulfonic acid group is used as the polymer compound. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
