A cap unit includes shutter rails guiding a shutter unit for opening and closing a toner outlet. The shutter rails are arranged on respective vertical surfaces protruding upward from respective side edges of a bottom surface of the cap unit where the toner outlet is formed. Each of the two vertical surfaces continues from an end of the shutter unit that is at a position of closing the toner outlet in a closing direction to a protruding position in the longitudinal direction. Consequently, a toner container and an image forming apparatus are provided in which toner contained in the toner container is prevented from scattering to the outside of the toner container in association with detachment operation of the toner container from a body of the apparatus even when the toner container is configured to discharge toner from the toner outlet by the toner's own weight. In addition, a space for arranging the toner container can be effectively secured in the main body of the image forming apparatus and the toner container can be set to the main body of the image forming apparatus with high fitting capability and operability.
