Fibrous materials are dyed or printed by applying from an aqueous medium, either together or separately, a water-dispersible or -soluble aminoplast and a water-soluble dyestuff containing at least one primary or secondary amino group bound to a triazine ring, or at least one H2N-CO-NH- group, or at least one alkylol amino group bound to a triazine ring, and then heating to harden the aminoplast. The process is applicable to textiles of cotton, cellulose acetate and triacetate, polyamides, polyesters and polyacrylonitrile, glass fibres, paper and leather. Suitable dyestuffs are of the nitro, oxazine, sulphonated copper phthalocyanine, polymethine, azomethine, azoxy, anthraquinone and azo series. Specified water-soluble or water-dispersible aminoplasts are urethane-, sulphonamide-, dicyandiamide-, aniline- and more especially urea- or melamine-resins, and many examples are given. Printing pastes may contain the usual agents such as starch, tragacanth, methyl cellulose and urea. Examples describe the padding of cotton, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, cellulose acetate and cellulose triacetate fibres and the printing of cotton fabrics. Specifications 435,868 and 482,345 are referred to. |
