827,829. Cathode-ray storage tubes. HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO. Aug. 1, 1958 [Aug. 15, 1957], No. 24930/58. Class 39(1). In an electronic storage tube of the kind described in Specification 770,333, the matrix having information-character-forming apertures is disposed within an electrostatic lens system which includes a preconvergence lens limiting off-axis excursions of the electron beam entering the matrix and a lens converging the beam leaving the matrix towards a predetermined area of the target. In the embodiment shown the beam is directed towards the selected aperture in the matrix 10 by the deflection system 8 and is subsequently caused to follow a path substantially parallel to the tube axis by electrodes 40-42. After passing through the matrix the beam is converged towards the tube axis by electrodes 42-44 and thereafter is redirected by deflection system 11 so as to be coincident with the tube axis. Finally the beam is directed by deflection system 12 towards the predetermined area of the storage screen 4. |
