The method involves fixing a wood material plate (2) or a pre-compacted wood material web (2') on a work table (1). An application unit (3) is provided at the top or underside of the wood material plate or wood material web. The application unit is selectively moved on the top or the underside so as to inject a preset amount of compensation medium in partial areas of the wood material plate or wood material web under a predetermined pressure. The wood material web or wood material plate is pressed with desired strength by a press, after application of compensation medium. An independent claim is included for device for processing to be treated regions of wood material plate or pre-compacted wood material web.
