7-Sulphamyl-3, 4-dihydro-benzothiadiazine - 1, 1-dioxides having a halogen substituent in the 6-position and optionally an alkyl, aralkyl, or heterocyclic group, which may be halo or hydroxy substituted, in the 3-position, are prepared by reacting an appropriate 2,4-disulphamyl aniline with a primary monovalent or polyvalent alcohol in the presence of an agent capable of converting an alcohol into the corresponding aldehyde. Suitably the alcohol is a compound of the formula H-O-Ch2-CH2-Z, wherein Z is hydrogen, halogen or an alkyl, aryl, hydroaryl or heterocyclic radical and the oxidising agent is potassium dichromate, potassium permanganate, selenium dioxide or lead tetraacetate. |
