<p>A water softening composition comprises a combination of first and second polymeric water softening agents. The first agent comprisÂes a polymer of an unsaturated carboxylic acid, whilst the second agent comprises a copolymer of an unsaturated poly-carboxylic acid and an unsaturated carboxylic acid. Preferably, the first agent comprises a polyacrylate which may have a molecular weight of 1,000 to 100,000. The unsaturated poly-carboxylic acid of the second agent can comprise maleic acid. Suitably, the molecular weight of the copolymer is from 1,000 to 100,000. A weight ratio of the first agent to the second agent is preferably in the range of 10:1 to 1:1, wherein the composition can comprise 11 wt% of the first agent and 2.5 wt% of the second agent. A method of removing and preventing the deposit of limescale and soap scum in a clothes washing machine by providing the composition is also claimed, wherein the composition can be added into the fabric softening dispensing drawer of the washing machine. The composition can also contain a water softening agent selected from an ion exchange agent, an ion capture agent or an anti-nucleating agent.</p> |
