<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilayer optical film having excellent screen contrast and a reduced color shift. <P>SOLUTION: The multilayer optical film at least includes: a polarizer; a first optical compensation layer in which a refractive index ellipsoid exhibits the relation of nx>ny=nz and an in-plane phase difference Re<SB>1</SB>is 200 to 300 nm; a second optical compensation layer in which a refractive index ellipsoid exhibits the relation of nx>nz>ny and an in-plane phase difference Re<SB>2</SB>is 90 to 160 nm; and a third optical compensation layer in which a refractive index ellipsoid exhibits the relation of nx=ny>nz in this order, and an angle α formed by the absorption axis of the polarizer and the slow axis of the first optical compensation layer and an angle βformed by the absorption axis of the polarizer and the slow axis of the second optical compensation layer satisfy the following inequality (1) (2α+30°)<β<(2α+60°). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
