The method involves constantly checking a noisy input signal (IN), whether it is located within or outside a dead band with a dead band width (DB) around a zero point. The dead band width and the zero point of the dead band are changed during operation on the basis of temporal behavior of the input signal, where a filtered output signal is outputted. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for filtering a signal; (2) a regulating device for a process; (3) a computer program with program coded instruction; and (4) a computer program product, particularly disk or storage media.
