A negative pressure wound therapy system has a buffering unit 50 connected between an actuator 30 and a wound dressing 60, a sensor 20 connected to the buffering unit 50, a controller 10 connected to the sensor 20 and an actuator 30, and a collector 40 connected to the actuator 30. The buffering unit 50 compensates for negative pressure loss in the wound and resists pressure rise in the wound during slight leakage, dampens the pressure variations from the actuator 30 which may be turned on and off according to the controller 40 and sensor 20, and keeps the actuator 30 from directly operating on the wound to reduce the pain of the patient while lowering the pressure in the wound. The buffering unit 50 may comprise a water-absorbing layer 51, an air-permeating layer 52 which stops liquid flowing into the sensor, and a mesh layer 53 to keep the buffer from collapsing (see figure 3). Under negative pressure the water-absorbing layer 51 compresses and water drains out into the collector. When the actuator is stopped, the water-absorbing layer expands. |
