PURPOSE: An electric motor and a compressor having the same are provided to control the increase of the axial length of a rotor by reducing the axial thickness of a balance weight. CONSTITUTION: An electric motor comprises a stator and a rotor. The rotor is rotatably coupled to the stator. The rotor comprises a rotary shaft, a rotor core, multiple conductor bars, an end ring(183), and a balance weight(195). The rotor core is coupled to the rotary shaft. The conductor bars are inserted into the rotor core in an axial direction. The end ring short-circuits the conductor bars. The balance weight is coupled to the rear of the end ring.
