An apparatus and method for self-adaptive dispersion compensating are applied to the self-adaptive compensation of dispersion in communication system, the apparatus comprises: input optical fiber, optical tunable dispersion compensator, output optical fiber, signaling system unit, control logic unit, the control logic unit calculates the adjusting value of the optical tunable dispersion compensator according to the dispersion performance information detected by the signaling system unit, then feeds back for controlling the optical tunable dispersion compensator, thus adjusts the dispersion compensating value of the optical dispersion compensator. The invention can self-adaptively compensate the system dispersion in real time, thus the transmission quality of the system signal is guaranteed, and in the case that the dispersion of the lines or network nodes is variable, it can implement the self-adaptive dispersion compensating of multi-channel or single-channel system.
