PURPOSE: A polyphosphonate is provided to able to provide a flame retardant thermoplastic resin composition having excellent flame retardance and thermal resistance without degrading other physical properties in case used as a flame retardant. CONSTITUTION: A polyphosphonate has acid value has acid value of 5.5 KOH mg/g or less. In chemical formula 1, A is a single bond, C1-C5 alkylene, C1-C5 alkylidene, C5-C6 cycloalkylidene, -S- or -SO2-, R is a substituted or unsubstituted C6-20 aryl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted aryloxy group, R1 and R2 is respectively a substituted or unsubstituted C1-6 alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C3-6 cycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C6-12 aryl group or a halogen atom, a and b is respectively and independently an integer from 0-4, and n is an integer from 1-500.
