PURPOSE: A light emitting diode having a current blocking layer and a light emitting diode package are provided to improve external quantum efficiency by reducing current concentration. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting structure includes a first conductivity type semiconductor layer, an active layer and a second conductivity type semiconductor layer. A first electrode(130) is electrically connected to the first conductivity type semiconductor layer. A second electrode(140) is electrically connected to the second conductivity type semiconductor layer. A first current blocking layer(150) is located on a lower portion of the first electrode so that a current is not concentrated around a first electrode and is dispersed. A second current blocking layer is located on a lower portion of the second electrode so that the current is not concentrated around the second electrode and is dispersed.
