METHOD FOR CROSSLINKING OF UHMWPE PLASTICS BY UV IRRADIATION

PURPOSE: A cross-linked UHMWPE molded product and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to solve problems including environmental problem, excessive consumption of energy, and excessive discharge of carbon dioxide which are generated in a thermosetting method. CONSTITUTION: A manufacturing method of a cross-linked UHMWPE molded product comprises the following steps: manufacturing a UHMWPE molded product by mixing ultrahigh molecular weight of polyethylene(UHMWPE) with a photoinitiator; and cross-linking by irradiating ultraviolet rays on the manufactured UHMWPE molded products. The photoinitiator is hydrogen replacement type, direct cracking type or an ion interactive photoinitiator. The hydrogen replacement type photoinitiator is selected from a group consisting of benzophenone, camphorquinone, anthraquinone, thioxanthene, a substituent or derivative thereof. The concentration of the photoinitiator is1-10 weight% based on the weight of the UHMWPE molded products.
