The invention relates to an apparatus and a method of operating an apparatus (1) for processing of dead animal bodies and br peits, said apparatus comprising a drum (2) for tumb said dead animal bodies and for pelt, said drum (2) comprising a first compartment (9, 9a) having an inlet (5) and an outlet (8), wherein said apparatus (1) is configured for selectively driving the drum (2) ina first rotational direction and a second rotational direction around a longitudinal symmetry axis (A) of the drum (2), and wherein said one or more fixed transportation units (10) are fixed to an inner surface of the compartment and are arranged to induce a movement of the content of the compartment in the longitudinal direction (LD) of the drum towards said outlet (8), during rotation of the drum (2) with said second rotation direction. Also, the invention relates to use ofsuch an apparatus.
