PURPOSE: A digital image processing device for increasing an image contrast and a method thereof are provided to add gain functions of different features to a Laplacian image and a Gaussian image. CONSTITUTION: A gain processing unit(130) adds a first gain function to Laplacian images. The gain processing unit obtains a plurality of conversion Laplacian images. The gain processing unit adds a second gain function to a Gaussian image of the lowest resolution. The gain processing unit obtains a conversion Gaussian image. An image combining unit(140) inversely converts and combines the conversion Laplacian image and the conversion Gaussian image according to a Laplacian pyramid algorithm. The image combining unit obtains a conversion image.
