PURPOSE: A ruthenium separation method and apparatus thereof are provided to purely separate the ruthenium from a sample which contains ruthenium at high yield by scavenging RuO4 in an absorbent solution using distillation. CONSTITUTION: A ruthenium separation method comprises the following steps: obtaining RuO4 from a nitric acid distillation solvent using dissolved ruthenium in a sample containing ruthenium and a H5IO6 oxidizer by heating and distilling at 85-95 deg. Celsius; and scavenging the RuO4 in the absorption solution. The ruthenium separation method additionally includes the step of heating a pipe(1b) in which the RuO4 passes through at 65-75 deg. Celsius. The concentration of the nitric acid distillation solvent is 1-2M. In case the ruthenium content among the sample is 0.01 micro gram-1mg, 2.0-3.0 mmol of the oxidizer is used.
