PURPOSE: A LCD monitor power saving device having a distance sensor and a LCD monitor power saving method using the same are provided to reduce the energy waste by processing the power saving action, which is an action turning off the back light by using the distance sensor. CONSTITUTION: An infrared distance sensor(21) outputs the distance value between LCD monitor and a user. A variable resistance(22) for movement distance establishment changes the standard voltage. A comparator(24) compares the output value and the fixed standard voltage and determines the presence of the user. A logic product circuit(25) performs a logical multiply the back light control input and outputs backlight control signal.
