PURPOSE: A portable terminal and alarm control method thereof are provided to control the output of alarm sound based on calculated light brightness by using a brightness calculation unit. CONSTITUTION: A user establishes alarm time and a necessary brightness value(S310). When the established alarm time is arrived, a control unit senses the surrounding brightness of a terminal through an optical sensor(S320,S330). In case the calculated brightness value is higher than a previously established threshold value, the control unit does not operate the alarm(S340). In case the calculated brightness value is lower than the previously established threshold value, the control unit normally operate the alarm(S350).
