In a device for converting a combination of two-state electrical signals into a corresponding mechanical displacement energy to effect the displacement is derived from a continuously rotating shaft. As described, each input it has associated with it two levers 7, 8, Figs. 2, 4, freely mounted on a shaft 9, the levers being rocked about the shaft 9 by an eccentric pin 2 on a continuously rotating shaft 1 via links 3, 5 and 6. The arrangement is such that starting from the position shown in Fig. 2 the levers can either be rocked outwards symmetrically (not shown) or, if one of two coils 17, 18, is energized they can be rocked outwards asymmetrically. Fig. 4 shows the result of momentarily energizing coil 18 which momentarily prevents lever 8 rocking until lever 7 has moved slightly, whereupon a raised portion 23 on the link 6 latches in a fixed member 22. Thus substantially all the energy used to displace the lever 7 is derived from the continuously rotating shaft 1. In order to derive a single resultant mechanical displacement representing the incoming signals, each pair of levers 7, 8 is associated with a wedge 14, Fig. 5, the wedges being juxtaposed as shown and having a thickness corresponding to the weight of the bit with which they are associated. Thus the resulting output is a displacement of a member 24, Fig. 5, since the extreme right-hand wedge bears on a fixed support 4.</p> |
