Provided is a light-emitting device that emits light in all directions. This light-emitting device (1) includes: a light-transmissive container (10); an LED (20) arranged in the recess (11) of the container (10); and a sealing member (30) that seals the LED (20) and encloses the recess (11). The recess (11) is structured of a bottom surface (11a) on which the LED (20) is mounted, and side surfaces (11b) structured so as to surround the bottom surface (11a). The light emitted by the LED (20) passes from the bottom surface (11a) and the side surfaces (11b) of the recess (11) through the interior of the container (10), and is emitted from the back surface and the side surfaces of the container (10) to the outside of the container (10).
