PURPOSE: A device for sensing a breakout during a continuous casting process is provided to monitor the surface of slab in real time, thereby preventing a breakout. CONSTITUTION: A device for sensing a breakout during a continuous casting process comprises a camera unit(101), an image processing unit(102), an image display unit(103), and a control unit(104). The camera unit photographs the surface of slab drawn out of a mold in real time and creates an image signal from the photographed image. The image processing unit converts the image signal into a grayscale image and calculates the brightness of the slab from the grayscale image. The image display unit outputs the grayscale image. The control unit monitors the variation of the brightness provided from the image processing unit and stops the casting process when the variation exceeds a fixed value.
