<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate address administration of image data by preventing an increase in control burden required for a change of an identification information array. <P>SOLUTION: A transfer control circuit reads out image element data from a selected symbol image data area of a CGROM in response to a prior transfer command corresponding to the image element data for displaying an image of selected symbols, writes the read image element data in a selected symbol data buffer 155C, and writes the image element data, which is read out from a common symbol image data area in response to a common symbol reading command, in a symbol array data buffer 155D. A lithographic circuit writes the image element data, which is read from the selected symbol data buffer 155C, in the symbol array data buffer 155D to create symbol array data in response to a selected symbol setting command.
