The method involves determining the values for timing advance for a terminal from three cells (110,120,130) on the basis of base stations. The path lengths of signals are determined between the terminal and the base stations on the basis of the determined values for the timing advance. The determined path lengths of signals are converted in distances between the terminal and the base stations. Estimation for the location of the terminal is determined from the intersection points of three distance circles around the base stations. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a telecommunication system, which has a network unit; (2) a base station for use in a cell of a telecommunication system; and (3) a network unit, which receives information of received value for timing advance over a validity time period.
