PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new sulfone compound useful for an aprotic polar solvent, which is excellent in thermal stability with a relatively low melting point, and has low solubility of water and high decomposition voltage characteristics, and also to provide a method for producing the sulfone compound, and an electrolyte for an electrochemical device which is produced using the sulfone compound.

SOLUTION: The sulfone compound is represented by formula (1), wherein R represents 1C-6C alkyl.
