<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and imaging method whereby an AF operation can be started immediately from a present focus position, time taken for AF can be shortened without making mistake in driving direction for a focus position, and power consumption increase can be prevented. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus with two imaging optical systems 1 composed so as to be able to change a focus position comprises: a focus position controller 63 configured to control a focus position and shift the focus position of one of the imaging optical systems and the focus position of the other imaging optical system by a predetermined amount before a focal position detecting part detects a focal position; and a focal position direction determination part 64 configured such that based on two contrast evaluation values output correspondingly to the imaging optical systems when each imaging optical system is out of focus, a determination is made which direction the focal position of the subject is oriented with respect to the present focus position of each imaging optical system. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
