The present invention is a process for producing a liquid crystalline polyester resin, comprising carrying out an acetylation reaction and an oligomerization reaction of raw materials in an acetylation reaction vessel and then carrying out the acetic acid elimination/polycondensation of a liquid that is produced after the oligomerization reaction in a polycondensation reaction vessel, wherein the acetylation reaction vessel to be used has an inner wall surface composed of an alloy that contains 50 mass% or more of Ni and 10 mass% or more of Mo, the inner wall surface of the acetylation reaction vessel is divided into three or more band-shaped zones that are arranged in the direction of the height of the vessel, and the oligomerization reaction is carried out while keeping the temperatures of the band-shaped zones at temperatures that fulfill a specified relationship. In this process for producing a liquid crystalline polyester resin, the corrosion of the inner wall surface of the acetylation reaction vessel during the oligomerization reaction in the vessel can be prevented, the adhesion of contaminants onto the inner wall surface of the vessel can be prevented, and a washing cycle and quality can be improved.
